I saw this fish that had nothing to do with anything that I am usually interested in but it was just so well carved and had such personality that I bought him. Turns out these carvings from Pitcairn Island are pretty well regarded especially the older ones and this one I think is. Lovely detail and patina.

Do you know the story of Pitcairn Island? If not, I highly suggest you look it up -- there was a very long article in Vanity Fair a few years ago that was absolutely fascinating -- considering how small the island's population is, the carver of your fish may well be mentioned.
